What is the cause of female pattern baldness? This is a problem women have been struggling with for years although it has only recently been in the limelight. The major reason for this problem is androgenetic hormones. Androgen is typically a male hormone.
In females the ovaries and adrenal glands are the main supplier of androgens. An androgen such as DHEA is generated by the adrenal glands. This androgen can be altered by enzymes and turned into testosterone. When females have this problem DHEA precedes DHT. It is converted by alpha 5 reductase enzymes and hydroxysteroid hydrogenase isomerase, which is an enzyme. Basically, what this means is it will be changed by both of these enzymes in order to do the same damage regular DHT does to hair follicles of men.
