States With Expanded Health Coverage Fight Bill | ArticlesBase.com

States that have already broadly expanded health care coverage are pushing back against the Senate overhaul bill, arguing that it unfairly penalizes them in favor of states that have done little or nothing to extend benefits to the uninsured. With tax revenues down and budgets breaking, the states " including Arizona, California, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin " say they cannot afford to essentially subsidize other states expansion of health care.

Cost of legislation | ArticlesBase.com

Remember when health care reform was supposed to make life better for Coloradans? Well, reform efforts have taken an unexpected, and unfortunate, turn in recent weeks.

As two studies recently released by noted international consultants PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Oliver Wyman, Inc., show, major provisions in the current legislative proposals will cause health care costs to increase far faster and higher than they would even under the current system. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield followed with another actuarial study that looked at what legislation would do to Coloradan's premiums, and found much the same.

Many elected officials are expressing outrage and indignation that the studies dared be published and have vociferously questioned their veracity. But, the truth is, consumers would be well-served by taking a more reasoned and less political approach to this new information by familiarizing themselves with the findings and then deciding if they ring true.

Federal health care bills exclude 1 million California immigrants | ArticlesBase.com

No matter what health care bill emerges from Congress, roughly one in six uninsured Californians will be excluded because they are not legal residents.

President Barack Obama still refers to the plan as “comprehensive health insurance reform,'' although essentially none of its provisions are likely to be available to an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, a group that typically receives no insurance at work and lacks the means to buy it on their own, advocates say.

That means an estimated tens of thousands living in San Diego and Riverside counties will remain without insurance " whether the Senate ultimately passes a bill and no matter how generous the subsidies for the poor or punitive the penalties for those who refuse.
