Recently, I had a discussion with my boyfriend about the government's recent decision to try to pass a bill regarding health insurance. In the past years, the cost of health insurance has gone up and is now at the point where many people cannot afford to be insured. Bad? Yes, yes it is.

States that have already broadly expanded health care coverage are pushing back against the Senate overhaul bill, arguing that it unfairly penalizes them in favor of states that have done little or nothing to extend benefits to the uninsured.With tax revenues down and budgets breaking, the states " including Arizona, California, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin " say they cannot afford to essentially subsidize other states expansion of health care.

The bill passed by the Senate on Thursday would move toward universal health insurance coverage in large part by expanding Medicaid, a program whose costs have traditionally been shared by the states and the federal government.

The health care reform bill – all 1,990 pages of it – came to Elm Grove on Saturday, and the overwhelming sentiment from constituents of Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner who gathered at the village hall was clear: No thanks.

More than 200 people packed the boardroom and overflowed into the hallway at Elm Grove Village Hall to weigh in on the proposal and other federal issues in an afternoon meeting held by Sensenbrenner. Sitting behind a two-sided printout of the bill that measured more than 4 inches high, Sensenbrenner fielded questions and comments from residents of his congressional district.

“This is not about health care – this is about control of our lives,” Valerie Linton of Sussex told the crowd.

People need health care, everyone knows this and yet they still sometimes disregard this. Some people can get it through work and still don't want to because it is too expensive they think. The Private Health Care Insurance Debate

For a majority of people, health care is one of those sensitive subjects. No matter what solution to health care is presented, there is undoubtedly going to be someone that disagrees. And given the current political climate, the debate over health care is at the forefront of everyone's minds. Until this debate comes to some form of resolution, for most of us there will continue to be only two types of coverage: group insurance and private health insurance.

Of these two options, the more appealing is typically the group insurance option. Most people would rather not have to front the entire cost of the insurance, as well as worry about the myriad of other factors involved with private insurance. If your employer is going to offer health insurance as a benefit package, in most cases you will be best off taking the offer.
